Currently, there are no universally accepted definitions for the terms 'Counselling' and 'Psychotherapy' within the profession, and they are often used interchangeably. However, I can clarify what the terms mean to me and how they have been used here in this website.
When I use the term 'Counselling' I am referring to therapy sessions that focus on a specific issue and the use of talking-therapy to explore the impact that the issue is having on a person's mental health and wellbeing.
When I use the term 'Psychotherapy' I am talking about therapy sessions that focus on deeper issues over a longer term, using talking-therapy to explore the way experiences, thoughts, and emotions are linked, and how they can influence behaviours and beliefs about ourselves and the world.
Often 'counselling' leads naturally to 'psychotherapy'.

The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of successful counselling and psychotherapy, and trust can be difficult to develop - particularly when we feel anxious, or low, or when our experiences teach us that trust can be broken.
Right from the start, you can rest assured that I am a fully qualified and experienced psychotherapeutic counsellor, a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, and member of the British Psychological Society. I adhere to the BACP ethical framework - which means that I have your best interests and safety at the heart of our sessions.
Sessions are person-centred, moving at your pace, and together we can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences, in a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental environment.

By noticing our behaviour patterns, we can start getting curious about the thoughts and feelings that are associated with them.
Therapy can help you to process what is happening for you, identify where you may be getting stuck, and help you with breaking old habits to make way for positive changes you want to see in the future.

Talking-therapy sessions with Azure Dragonfly
offer you the time and space to
discuss your experiences and process how you feel.
